A survey carried out for BBC Radio 5 live as part of the BBC’s 100 Women 2016 season showed that only a third of women feel confident about asking for pay rises, compared to more than half of men. 56% of women feel confident about applying for a promotion compared to 68% of men. Lydia offered advice to women on how to approach asking for a pay rise or a promotion. For women seeking a promotion or payrise, it is important to approach this is a commercial negotiation, to demonstrate the value that you are going to bring to an employer and to phrase your request positively.
MP & Chair of the Equalities Committee, Maria Miller, contributed on a live link from Parliament, highlighting steps being taken by the Government to address the Gender pay gap issue, the need to modernise the workplace by offering flexible employment and the valuable contribution of women to the UK economy.
