Dr Jacqueline Carter

Jackie joined the Centre for Enterprise in June 2013 as a Data Analysis Researcher and became a Research Associate in 2014. Her role mainly involves analysing business data collated by the CfE for use in the team’s varied research projects.

Jackie has taken part in a range of CfE research projects including producing case studies for the project “Exploring the Potential of the North West’s Small Firms to Drive Forward Economic Recovery” and conducting interviews with high growth entrepreneurs and analysing interview data for the Growth Accelerator Observatory project “Understanding the High Growth Mindset”.  In 2014 Jackie carried out a New Economic Models in the Digital Economy (NEMODE) funded project “Social Media Strategies in Small Businesses” which included quantitative survey data and interviews with small businesses in the North West.

Prior to joining CfE, Jackie worked as a Research Assistant at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in the Centre for Aviation, Transport and the Environment (CATE). She assisted the climate change research team in tasks such as processing large data sets of global aircraft flight movements, preparation of greenhouse gas emissions inventories and analysis of the output data from the team’s computer models.  Prior to joining CATE as a member of staff, Jackie gained an MSc in Environmental Management & Sustainable Development through part-time study at MMU. Whilst completing her MSc, Jackie worked at Groundwork, as part of a business support team, which assisted businesses in Greater Manchester in reducing their carbon dioxide emissions and becoming more efficient in the use of resources such as energy, materials and water.

Jackie has also worked in the computer software industry for eleven years, carrying out software development, testing and leading a development team.  Her original academic background is in Physics. She was awarded an undergraduate degree in Physics by the University of Leeds.  She also completed a PhD degree in Computational Solid State Physics at the University of Leeds.
